Tired
of winter weather? Ready for a dose of Florida sunshine? How about joining
us for some golf? Or a guided tour of the Bass Art Museum in Miami,
followed by dinner (click for
menu) at the historic Abbey Hotel?
Here are the details of our mini-reunions in the sunshine
state!
April 4 - Golf at Emerald Dunes
Golf Club West Palm Beach. As we did last year, we'll begin with a
barbeque lunch at 11:30 a.m., and T-off at 12:30. If you can stay for
dinner, we'll meet at Morton's Steak House nearby at 6:00 p.m. Wives and
significant others are most welcome, of course.
Master golfer John O'Neill and Ken Scasserra will
organize the Emerald Dunes event, as usual. The course is beautiful and
challenging. The golf carts have GPS and a screen of each fairway. Greens
fees and other costs are included on the reply
form.
April 5 - Miami Beach. We'll be guided through the collections of the Bass
Museum by Carol Damian S'60 (PhD Art History, Chair, FIU Art Dept.)
at 3:30 p.m., and meet across the street at The Abbey
Hotel, 21st St., for
drinks at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30. It is a charming "boutique" hotel in the Art Deco style.
'61 last met here for dinner in 2003 and enjoyed it. The Damians and
quite likely a few others from '60 will join us.

Dear Classmates,
Re: Palm Beach Golf and Steak Outing, April 4, 2005
The day was perfect for golf or anything else - 77° and sunny, with a
light breeze from the ocean.
John O'Neill and Ken Scasserra got us started with a barbecue lunch at
Emerald Dunes Golf Club, and announced the "game of the day."
Each of us kicked in $10 and predicted his score. Closest finisher to his
score wins the pot. John "ate and ran", as he had a U.S.G.A.
meeting in Augusta. That left 9 of us to play the challenging course -
Draudt, Horn, Lane, McConnell, McGinity, Torell, Tornek, Walker and Vince
Damian '60. Walker took top honors with an 80, closely followed by
Draudtie. (Your scribe did not finish last, for a change.) Horn took the
$90 pot for predicting his score, and promptly handed the money over to
Ken for the '61 scholarship fund. (Thanks Mike!)
It was great seeing Lane, McConnell and Torell at the event for the
first time, and everyone else back for the second year - hopefully we can
do it again next year.
That evening we met for dinner at Morton's Steakhouse. Mitch and Betsy
Lamotte joined the group along with Joni Lane, Anne Torell, Maureen
McGinity and Kathie - Rob Walker's fiancé! He and Kathie will be married
in July - way to go Rob! From soup to nuts and dessert, it was a
most enjoyable evening, with plenty of great stories to go around.
Before we parted company at dinner, I told everyone that Rick Wall has
been fighting a federal prosecution since 2002, and has an important day
in court coming up in May. Please keep Rick and Kathy Wall in your
thoughts and prayers.
See you at the class dinner at our 44th reunion on May 27th!
Best regards,
Joe
