Seminole Golf Club, North Palm Beach, FL

Updated 1/11/08

Dear Classmates,

John Torell, John O'Neill, and Belden Frease '60 (members) will be our hosts for golf at the Seminole Golf Club, N. Palm Beach, FL. Seminole is ranked in the top 15 of all courses in the US and #1 in Florida.

Tuesday, Feb. 12, 11:45 AM – Meet for lunch on the terrace in front of the golf club dining room, with T times starting at 1 pm.
We'll have dinner that evening at Morton's Steakhouse in W. Palm Beach, 777 South Flagler Drive, at 6 PM (Dutch treat).

For more info on Seminole, click here
Seminole is a classic Florida links type golf course, with plenty of water and wind. The wind factor makes it a challenging course, and the club requires caddies.

Golf fees:
Greens fee - $125, plus caddies fee (compulsory) - $80 per bag. (includes tip)
Golf carts are optional ($20) and lunch will be about $30. There are no rental clubs.

Pre-registration for golf and dinner is required by Feb. 1, 2008:

Send your check for greens fee and caddy ($205) to me at 98 Burning Tree Drive, Naples, FL, 34105. Please note your golf handicap.  We will collect for golf carts and lunch on the day.

Dinner Reservations: Let me know by Feb. 1 if you (and significant other(s)) can join us at Morton's Steak House for dinner.

Joe's Report:  2/16/08

'61 Ball Bashers Soaked at Seminole

A full 12 classmates reported for duty at Seminole Golf Club last Tuesday, in North Palm Beach. Our hosts John Torell, John O'Neill and Belden Frease '60 showed us around the historic clubhouse under the gaze of mooseheads, a barber, bartender, and plaques attesting to the many luminaries who have played there since 1929. We had lunch in the verandah, overlooking the beach dunes, and Don Swan passed out the 1961 hats (thank you Ken). Our three foursomes teed off at 1 pm under gusty and darkening skies. Seminole is a magnificent course, wide, rolling and beautiful. Each green was the size of Princeton stadium, or so it seemed.

After about 12 holes were played, a tropical rainstorm began that would last for the next 24 hours, complete with sparklers and thunder.

So it ended with a soaking - and the socializing began at Morton's Steak House at 6. There we were joined by the Turnbulls and several wives. A fine evening, and a memorably abbreviated but good day of golf.

Regards,
Joe
