Minutes of Class meeting at Wojciechowicz's May 28, 2004
The meeting was called to order by the Class President at 9:00 p.m.
Meeting agendas and last year's minutes were distributed.
Reunion Committee Chair Joe Prather thanked all for coming, especially
first timer Zoltan Szigethy and his guest, and Ed Lewin, back for his
second reunion. He presented our hostess, Carol Wojciechowicz, with a
small gift and our thanks for her hospitality at her historic home on
Herrontown Road. Jim and Susan Blair will host next year's class dinner.
Prather reminded the meeting that planning will begin this year for our
next major reunion, our 45th, and we will need assistance in all aspects
of the reunion, even though we have a Finance chair (Jay Parsons) and
Entertainment chair (Jim Blair) lined up.
Cookie Krongard moved to approve the minutes of last year's meeting,
which was seconded and carried.
Old Business -
1. Financial reports -
a. McGinity reported that the Class Treasury account stands at $33,566,
about level with last year at this time. 295 classmates have paid dues
this year as last - up a bit from last year - about 46%. 96 contributed to
the class scholarship fund, $5480, also in line with last year. In
response to a question, the market value of the class scholarship fund at
3/31/04 was $1,633,191.
b. The Class Reunion Account is about $2,800.
c. Our support of Annual Giving remains strong, with 50% of the class
contributing $201,000 so far. We hope to raise $240,000 from at least 68%
of the class by the end of June. This is outstanding participation!
2. A physical gift to Princeton was discussed at last year's class
meeting, and the President reported that after many calls and discussions
with Marsha Gilman, the Development Office has told us that Whitman
College is not yet available for gifts such as the ones we discussed last
year. Also, since we have not seen widespread enthusiasm for this project,
class officers have decided to defer consideration of a physical gift for
the time being.
New Business -
1. Mini-reunions report - McGinity thanked Ken Scasserra and John
O'Neill for organizing a successful golf outing in Florida on March 2, and
Tim McAuliffe for a fine class dinner March 9. There will be a class
dinner in Denver July 1. No interest has been expressed in the Reston, VA
golf outing July 13, and it will be cancelled.
2. Jim Blair suggested we schedule a class dinner in San Diego for Sept.
24, 2004. This will coincide with the varsity football team's game against University of San Diego on the
25th. The suggestion was
welcomed. Blair and McGinity will coordinate.
3. Contribution from '61 to the Princeton Community Foundation in
memory of Alex Wojciechowicz '61. - Jim Blair moved the following
resolution:
Class of 1961 Resolution of May 28, 2004
We hereby resolve
a. to recognize the lifelong dedication of our deceased classmate
Alexander Wojciechowicz and his wife Carol to the Class of '61, and their
many acts of generosity and leadership, and
b. to express the gratitude of all classmates by making a $500
contribution from the Class to Princeton Community Foundation, one of
their favorite causes, and
c. to encourage any classmates who are able and willing to join the class
in this gesture, to make individual contributions of their own to
Princeton Community Foundation in honor of Carol and Alexander
Wojciechowicz '61, and forward same to the Class President.
The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
4. Fred Hitz's new book: Rachel Manning encouraged all classmates to
read The Great Game, Fred's new book on espionage. Several copies
were available at the meeting for classmates to peruse.
McGinity thanked all class officers for their outstanding service to
the class, especially those in attendance - Brakeley, Prather and
Scasserra. Art Smith complimented Brakeley for having served ably as Class
Secretary and never missing a deadline for 18 years.
The meeting adjourned at 10 p.m.
