Come join us again at People! We'll be converging in the loft upstairs at People for another installation of our series of readings by out authors.

Evan Wolfson, "WHY MARRIAGE MATTERS: America, Equality, and Gay People's Right To Marry"
Fair-minded Americans are seeking answers as to why the freedom to marry is right-indeed necessary-for all couples and for the country. Aimed at gay and non-gay individuals alike, Why Marriage Matters addresses these concerns in chapters that address the key questions one by one. With persuasive, humane reasoning based on personal stories, the history of other changes in marriage, and constitutional argument, Wolfson invites intelligent, informed dialogue. More enlightening than incendiary, Wolfson abstains from using legal rhetoric in favor of clear, forthright explanations grounded in logic and human experience. Powerful, thorough, and provocative, this volume promises to become a touchstone work for one of the most significant causes of our time.
Evan Wolfson is Executive Director of Freedom to Marry, an organization working to win marriage equality nationwide. He served 12 years at Lambda Legal Defense & Education Fund. He was co-counsel in the historic Hawaii marriage case, Baehr v. Miike, and contributed his expertise to the team in Baker v. Vermont, the Vermont Supreme Court ruling that lead to the creation of civil unions. In April 2004, Time magazine named him one of the "100 Most Influential People in the World." He is a member of Yale GALA and Harvard GLC.

David Boyer, "Kings & Queens: Queers at the Prom"
This groundbreaking visual and oral history goes to the queer heart of an American rite of passage and captures what it's like to grow up gay, bi, trans or utterly confused. Packed with more than seventy years of stories and pictures, KINGS & QUEENS simultaneously explores the evolution of both queer and pop culture--and shows off tons of fabulous hairstyles and fashions along the way!
David Boyer is a freelance writer and creative director whose clients include Better Homes & Gardens, Departures Magazine, MTV Networks and Kodak. His editorial writing has appeared in the New York Times, the Boston Phoenix, Might and XY magazines, as well as on Salon. This is his first book. David is a member of Penn GALA.

The readings will begin promptly at 7:00 pm. There will be an opportunity for question and answers after the reading. There will be some time before and after the event for drinks and mingling, and the authors will be on hand after the reading to autograph their books.

192 Books We thank 192 Books for supporting this event and making the authors' books available for sale! 192 Books was opened on May 22, 2003, deep in the heart of Chelsea.
A refreshing change from the chain book stores, 192 Books is a general-interest bookstore featuring key works of literature and history, art and criticism, the social and natural sciences, travel and children's books, and more. Their selection includes a wide range of recent titles and past best-sellers, as well as selected rare and out of print books. For more information, visit their website at http://www.192books.com/

People Lounge People is a beautiful bar that brings the SoHo feel to the lower East Side (directions follow). It's a marvelous place to have a drink and mix and mingle. There is also a wonderful restaurant called Dish right next door for folks that want to get a bite afterwards. For more information, visit their website at http://www.peoplelounge.com/

Like all of our events, all are welcome, but we especially welcome LGBT alumni from the ivy league and seven sisters schools, as well as our friends from Stanford, NYU, UVA, Duke, and Georgetown University. Feel free to bring your friends, boyfriends and girlfriends! We also welcome suggestions of authors for our next reading. We are particularly looking for books that have just been published or are about to be published, but that is not a fixed requirement. We particularly encourage you to suggest women authors.
