Join FFR/Princeton BTGALA's Shawn Cowls, Penn GALA & NYU LGBTQ Almuni
Council's Antony Hom, and the Boston University LGBT Alumni Network and
New York Law School's Lisa Padilla, for a discussion on the issues
affecting business owners as they plan for their future. We'll tailor
the discussion to the people that come, but topics that we'll be
prepared to discuss include:
Start-up and organization of your business (form of business,
buy-sell and shareholder agreements, etc.)
Asset protection (credit protection, credit trusts, etc.)
Risk and financial management (contracting, general liability and
other insurance, financing, cash flow management, tax and other
compliance, etc.)
Benefit planning - including a discussion of options for health insurance
Succession planning
Estate tax planning
Bio for Shawn Cowls
Shawn Cowls has spent the past two decades in the insurance and
financial services industry. He has worked for a number of insurance
companies as an actuary and a consultant and currently is in his own
practice helping individuals and small business implement financial
solutions to their insurance and investing needs. He is a member of the Planning Center for
Professionals, and is a registered representative of the brokerage
firm Hornor, Townsend, and Kent (Member NASD/SIPC). He holds a BA in Mathematics from Princeton University.
Bio for Antony Hom
Antony Hom is a Certified Public Accountant and Chartered Financial
Analyst, providing tax accounting and financial management and
consulting services to small businesses and self-employed individuals.
He has provided "CFO/ Controller" services to select clients, helping
them with establishing their internal controls and financial reporting
systems, budgeting, forecasting and planning needs. Prior to
establishing WYH Advisors, he served as a financial and business
controller at Citigroup (corporate financial control including
regulatory filings and expense management and control in the credit card
business) and Merrill Lynch (corporate level planning and a developed
model for forecasting and analyzing net interest revenue) and was an
auditor and tax accountant with one of the major public accounting
firms. He holds a Masters in Business Administration from the Stern
School at New York University and Bachelor of Science in Economics from
the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
Bio for Lisa Padilla
Lisa Ayn Padilla's practice focuses on financial and estate planning for all types of families. In practice for 21 years, Lisa's current practice includes using sophisticated estate, financial and tax techniques designed to facilitate the transfer of wealth to same-sex partners, spouses and younger generations in a tax-efficient manner, including using a variety of trusts, business succession plans, family limited partnerships, charitable giving plans and domestic partnership agreements. The trust and estate administration portion of her practice includes post-mortem tax planning and providing counsel to beneficiaries and fiduciaries in order to preserve inherited wealth. Lisa also performs second parent adoptions.
Credentials include a J.D. from Suffolk University Law School and an L.L.M. in Taxation from Boston University. Lisa is admitted to practice law in the state and federal courts of New York and Massachusetts, the First and Second U.S. Circuit Courts of Appeals, the United States Tax Court and the United States Supreme Court. Additionally, she is a New York State Certified Court Mediator, and certified Guardian and Court Evaluator.

Directions
It's easy to get to People! It's just a block and a half below the
intersection of First Avenue and Houston, near the 2nd Avenue, Essex,
Delancey, and Grand Street stops.
Subway From uptown or midtown, take the F train to the 2nd Avenue
stop. Exit out the right hand stairs on the First Avenue end of the station.
South of Houston, First Avenue becomes Allen Street. People is just a short
block and a half south of Houston on the west side of Allen, between Stanton
and Rivington.
From down town, take the J/Z up town. Get off at Essex. Walk west three
short blocks to Allen, then north a block and a half.
Bus From uptown or midtown, take the M15 bus south on 2nd Avenue. The bus
will turn on Houston and continue south on Allen Street. Get off at Houston
and Allen and walk south a short block and a half. From subway stations on
the west side, take the M21 bus east on Houston. Get off at 1st Avenue/Allen
Street and walk south a short block and a half.
