Through activities both on and off campus, The Fund for Reunion/Princeton GALA Inc., is devoted to improving the quality of life for lesbian, gay and bisexual people at Princeton University and to strengthening their ties as alumni with each other and with the University.
Incorporated in 1986, the Fund is not for profit, and contributions to it by individuals and corporations are tax exempt.
The goal of the Fund's founders is to make a powerful, positive impact on students both undergraduate and graduate, on alumni regardless of their sexual orientation, and on the University itself. No longer will it be possible to maintain the fiction that gay alumni are few or even nonexistent!
The purposes for which the Corporation is formed...shall be exclusively charitable, educational, scientific and literary...Eventually, we hope to be able to support lesbian and gay scholarship and a campus cultural center. Our current activities are of necessity more modest in scope:
- To enable the self-affirmation of gay, lesbian, and bisexual people.
- To encourage a sense of shared identity....
- To promote awareness of the rich cultural heritage of gay, lesbian and bisexual culture.
- To maintain a climate of social acceptance of gay, lesbian and bisexual people.
- To make distributions of money and property...to persons who are affiliated with Princeton University as present or former students, faculty and administrators and other staff, and to other organizations, for the accomplishment of the foregoing purposes...
- Maintaining a central office.
- Organizing events at Reunions.
- Soliciting and donating money to the University to support gay, lesbian and bisexual student activities. (By giving through the Fund, donors may remain anonymous, but allow their numbers and Classes to which they belong to be reflected.)
- Giving direct support to undergraduates, graduate students and faculty who are engaged in research and study in gay, lesbian, and bisexual related areas.
- Encouraging the collection by Princeton University of archives from organizations that have been influential in gay, lesbian, bisexual related public policy.
