The Princeton Club of Southern Arizona

October, 2000

Greetings Fellow Tigers!

Our club has a new name, two new officers, a new post office box, new dues structure, and we are now on ONLINE. We have a survey coming out soon, and our first event of the year is coming up very quickly on October 26. Details are immediately below. The event will be free to members. Mark you calendars!

MEET

DR. INGRID DAUBECHIES

 PRINCETON PROFESSOR OF APPLIED
AND COMPUTATIONAL MATHEMATICS

Wine and Cheese Reception
(no cost to PCOSA members)

Thursday, October 26, 2000, 6:00-8:00pm

Sheraton Tucson Hotel & Suites – Presidential Suite
5151 E. Grant Road (east of Swan)

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Ingrid Daubechies to Tucson. Dr. Daubechies will present us with an informal talk about her work in wavelets which she has pioneered. Considered to be one of the most exciting developments in engineering this past decade, wavelets are being applied to everything from medical imaging to the search for oil reserves. Next year, thanks in large measure to Professor Daubechies, wavelets will become the new Internet standard (JPEG2000) for compressing images - the vacation pictures you e-mail your loved ones will probably be packaged and sent as wavelets.

Very important - please RSVP now to byronmattingly87@yahoo.com

or call the event sponsor
Cassandra Software
(local to Tucson) 903-2886.

Dues

Your dues support newsletter mailings announcing our Club events. New costs this year include our website registration ($200) and post office box ($24). Our treasury began the year with $600, very close to where we have begun each year since your current Treasurer has served.

Your officer committee voted for a new dues structure this year, with two goals in mind: 1) to increase membership participation among recent graduates, and 2) to deliver a valuable membership benefit through our new website, which carries a new annual cost. Dues are:

Classes of 1997 and later Free!

Classes of 1996 and earlier (per household) $35

Dues are now payable for 2000-2001. Please participate by clicking the "membership" heading in our website, completing the form, and mailing your check payable to PCOSA to our post office box above (those without website access, simply mail your check). We sincerely thank you for your support!
