The Princeton Club of Southern Arizona March, 2002 Greetings Fellow Tigers! Spring 2002 Club Events A READING BY MS. DEMETRIA MARTINEZ ACCLAIMED
POET AND NOVELIST
Wednesday, May 15, 2002 5:30-7:30pm: Acclaimed poet, novelist and journalist, Ms. Demetria Martinez ’82 reads from her new book of poems, The Devil's Workshop (University of Arizona), as well as an excerpt from her novel Mother Tongue (Ballantine) in Porter Hall located at the Tucson Botanical Gardens, 2150 North Alvernon Way, Tucson, AZ. The evening begins at 5:30 p.m. with a reception for Ms. Martinez in Porter Hall.
In addition to Devil's Workshop, Ms. Martinez is the author of two
other collections of poetry, Breathing Between the Lines and Three
Times a Woman. Her novel, Mother Tongue, won the 1994 Western States
Book Award and is based in part on her experience with the Sanctuary
Movement which she covered as a religion writer in the 1980s in New
Mexico. In 1987 the U.S. government charged her with conspiracy, and
aiding and abetting the entry of Salvadorans into the country;
following a two week trial, she was acquitted on First Amendment
grounds. She received her BA from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public
and International Affairs in 1982.

A BREAKFAST MEETING WITH MR. TIM OLCOTT, ESQ. ESTATE
AND TRUST LAW SPECIALIST
Saturday, April 13, 2002 8:30-11:30am: Attorney Timothy Olcott in the Murphey Room and Patio located at the Westin La Paloma, 3800 East Sunrise Drive, Tucson, AZ. The meeting will begin with a full continental breakfast at 8:30 a.m. Attorney Olcott will discuss estate planning in Arizona. Topics covered will be different types of property ownership and the types of documents necessary to have a complete estate plan that not only covers distribution of estates upon death but also arrangements for planning for disability. His presentation will include case studies reviewing the family situation, assets and estate planning goals of three families. Mr. Olcott, Esq., has practiced in the areas of estate planning and the administration of trusts and estates since 1974. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, and his law degree from Emory University, Atlanta. He is a member of the State Bar of Arizona and its Probate and Trust Law Section; the Pima County Bar Association; the Southern Arizona Estate Planning Council; the Minnesota State Bar Association and its Probate and Trust Law Section; and the State Bar of Georgia. He is also certified by the State Bar of Arizona as a specialist in Estate and Trust Law. Cost: $5 per person at the door. PCOSA and affiliated Ivy League / Seven Sisters guests are welcome! A NIGHT AT THE THEATRE WITH CELEBRATED
TUCSON PLAYWRIGHT
Wednesday, January 23, 2002 7:30-9:30pm: Tucson Playwright Elaine Romero in the Cabaret Theatre located at the Temple of Music and Art, 330 South Scott Avenue, Tucson, AZ. Ms. Romero will read from her latest works and discuss her creative journey of turning history into gut-wrenching drama. The evening will begin at 5:30 p.m. with an optional informal dinner with Elaine at the Café Poca Cosa restaurant (gourmet Mexican) in downtown Tucson. As the recipient of the 2002 Arizona Commission on the Arts Playwriting Fellowship, Ms. Romero has had her plays produced Off-Broadway and across the country. She has recently developed two new plays at the Arizona Theatre Company, Before Death Comes for the Archbishop (for which she won the 2001 Arizona Playwrights Award) and Secret Things. As Playwright-in-Residence at the ATC, Elaine also mentors new Latino playwrights and coordinates the National Latino Playwrights Award. Her ¡Curanderas! Serpents of the Clouds premiered at the Invisible Theatre in Tucson last year. Seating is limited in the Cabaret Theatre.
