Alumni Schools Committee Welcomes Seven New Members

PCOSA Alumni Schools Committee former chairman Ted Taubeneck '48 stepped down due to a conflict of interest: his grandson is applying to Princeton! Lindianne agreed to chair our ASC committee for this year. Anita Harris, who operates the Alumni Contact Program of the National Schools Committee, called to explain e-mail broadcasts whereby ASC chairs and regional club officers can easily communicate with club members. This year, Princeton is using the "common application" with other universities, and Admissions is expecting 10% higher volume of applicants. Therefore, to maintain our excellent record of interviewing 100% of our regional applicants to Princeton, we need more interviewers. Lindianne reports:

"I logged in to Tigernet. Following instructions from Anita Harris, I constructed and broadcasted an e-mail announcing that our regional Alumni Schools Committee needs more interviewers. PCOSAns Marv Slepian '77, David Spiro '80, Dave Reiley '91, Laura Hollengreen '84, Bill Markus '47, Ron Morgan '63, and Susan Humphreys *79 responded. Kathleen Bader '04 joined ASC by telephone. Added to ASC members Terry Cast '76, Ken Folsom '43, Fred Frelinghuysen '75, Hugh Miller '79, Gerry Goldberg '73, Gary Hammond '61, Joel Nixon '50, Ned White '53, and Matt Rubach '02, we have an excellent Schools Committee for the '04-'05 academic year. Many thanks to you who serve in this unique and enjoyable way!"

Volunteer Leadership Assembly at Princeton

Princeton class, regional association and other alumni volunteers will be returning to Princeton October 21-23 for a special gathering of alumni leaders (the weekend of the Princeton vs. Harvard football game). PCOSA is pioneering the idea of sending a three generation team to this assembly. At the assembly volunteers will share ideas on traditional and innovative forms of community service. (For example, if PCOSAns wish, PCOSA may adopt a public high school here in Tucson and initiate a program of mentoring students, on a model established by the Princeton Club of Chicago.)

More information will soon be available about the leadership assembly. We are establishing a special fund to enable recent/elder alumni to attend this special assembly. Thanks to those of you who have already pledged to contribute to this fund.

Three Generation Team at College Fair

A three generation team will be covering the huge College Fair sponsored by TUSD at the Tucson Convention Center, Tucson College Night, on Thursday, October 21. Last year 3000 students and parents attended Tucson College Night. Thanks to Matt Rubach '02, Ken Folsom '43 and Terry Cast '76 three generations of experience, wisdom and up-to-date knowledge of Princeton will be on hand to represent Princeton! Ned White '53 will cover St. Gregory's College Fair earlier that same day. Thanks to our college fair volunteers, who will reflect the face of Princeton for high school students in our region.

PCOSA Mainstays Hugh and Naomi Miller . . .

are leaving Tucson for the wilds of Western Massachusetts. Their enthusiasm for Princeton, their gracious holiday parties, Naomi's excellent piano music, and their lovely family will be sorely missed. Naomi accepted an excellent job offer from Smith College, a senior cabinet level appointment as Director of Institutional Diversity and Assistant to the President, and a full professor appointment in English & Women's Studies.
