Event Pictures

Hello Fellow Tigers,
What a special evening with Stanley Jordan! Thank you all for coming to the event. Stanley is truly mesmerizing, especially when he plays the guitar with one hand and the piano with another. We had a wonderful turnout of about 50 alum with family and friends. The meet and greet with Stanley after the concert was a real treat. Stanley makes all of us from Princeton proud.

About Stanley Jordan ‘81
Stanley Jordan has four Grammy Nominations and has already made a name for himself as one of the most significant guitarists of the latter 20th century. After seeing him perform with his trio at the Montreal Jazz Festival, Los Angeles Times jazz critic Leonard Feather was prompted to write, "Genius is a word too often tossed around in musical circles, but it has been rightfully applied to Stanley Jordan." Stanley is an American jazz/jazz fusion guitarist who uses a technique called the "touch" or "tapping" technique to achieve a level of orchestral complexity equaling that of a keyboard instrument. He can sound like two or three guitarists at the same time with no overdubs or other studio techniques. Stanley was born in Chicago and he received a BA in digital music composition from Princeton University in 1981, studying under computer-music composers Paul Lansky and Milton Babbitt. Stanley began his music career at age six, studying piano, then shifted his focus to guitar at age eleven. He later began playing in rock and soul bands. In 1976, Jordan won an award at the Reno, Nevada, Jazz Festival. While earning a degree from Princeton in 1981, he played with Benny Carter and Dizzy Gillespie. Stanley has performed at many jazz festivals, including: Kool Jazz Festival (1984), Concord Jazz Festival (1985), and the Montreux International Jazz Festival (1985). During the 1980s Jordan played with Quincy Jones, Michal Urbaniak, and Richie Cole.
