Princeton's Global NetNight in Atlanta
"Developing Your Personal Brand"

On Wednesday, March 14, 2012, the Princeton Club of GA will join more than 30 of Princeton's regional alumni associations around the world in hosting a local, in-person networking event called "Princeton Global NetNight 2012: Developing Your Personal Brand."

The program will consist of a cross-disciplinary panel discussion featuring local industry leaders, followed by a general networking session.  We're excited to announce the list of speakers:

Barbara M. Henagan ’81

Managing Director

Linx Partners

Babette Henagan is the Founder and Managing Director of Linx Partners, a private equity fund based in Atlanta, Georgia.  Linx specializes in partnering with CEOs and family businesses to help solve liquidity and/or transition issues.  Ms. Henagan has over thirty years of direct equity experience.  Previously Ms. Henagan was the Senior Managing Director of Bradford Ventures, Ltd.  She is currently the Chairman of the Board of Metaltech Service Center, Inc. and on the Board of Directors of several other companies.  Ms. Henagan is on the Board of Trustees of the Atlanta Speech School and the Atlanta Botanical Garden and was the former Chairman of the Board of the Atlanta Botanical Garden.  She serves on the Board of Councilors of The Carter Center and is a member of the Goizueta Business School Advisory Board of Emory University.  She holds an M.B.A. from Columbia University and an A.B. in Biology from Princeton University.

John S. Richardson ’70

Managing Partner & Co-Founder

Navigation Capital Partners

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, John Richardson began his career in commercial banking in Pittsburgh following his Princeton education (Class of 1970) and a few other detours (including an M.B.A.).  During the 1980s, as the consolidation in the soft drink distribution systems in the U.S. began to take off, Mr. Richardson joined a start-up company that had been formed by several independent Pepsi-Cola bottlers for the purpose of acquiring and consolidating Pepsi bottlers in the mid-Atlantic region.  By bringing in a major private equity investor, Mr. Richardson helped the company acquire a dozen businesses in a four-year span, consolidate their operations and sell the company at the height of the consolidation push to the Pepsi-Cola Company, rising to the position of COO at the time of the sale.

Subsequently, Mr. Richardson came to Atlanta to become CFO of a portfolio company of the same private equity investor.  A technology start-up, this portfolio company was ultimately not successful.  From there, Mr. Richardson joined Mellon Ventures, a newly launched private equity initiative of Mellon Bank, and moved to Philadelphia to open an office for Mellon Ventures.  Mr. Richardson returned to Atlanta in 1998 to open an office here for Mellon Ventures.  At Mellon, Mr. Richardson invested over $1 billion in private equity, both venture and buy-out investments.  In the mid-2000s, Mellon went through a substantial change in their business model, discontinued their private equity investing and in 2006 agreed to sell the portfolio to Mr. Richardson and his partners.  Along with four other partners from Mellon Ventures, Mr. Richardson formed Navigation Capital, raised money from Goldman Sachs and acquired the portfolio and formed a new fund.  Today, Navigation Capital invests in lower middle market buy-outs and control growth equity and is in process of raising its third fund under Navigation Capital.  Mr. Richardson is married with two sons who are in the eighth and ninth grades.

Jerry Schmidt

Senior Managing Partner

Matteson Partners

Jerry Schmidt is currently an owner and Senior Managing Partner at Matteson Partners, a provider of Strategic Leadership Solutions.  He devotes the majority of his time to the strategic direction of the company and in particular to its new RPO (Recruitment Process Outsourcing) company, ExactSource.  Jerry also works with select Matteson Partners clients on Organizational Effectiveness and Business Value Creation.  Over the past 22 years of Private equity and Venture investing as Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Cordova Ventures, Jerry has developed a proprietary “Value Creation Matrix” to assist small to mid size companies create substantial shareholder value.  Prior to that Jerry spent 18 years at Jostens Inc., a formerly publicly traded New York Stock Exchange Company on the Standard and Poorʼs 500 based in Minneapolis involved in the sale and manufacturing of motivation and recognition products to educational institutions and companies.  Jerry served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing for the Printing Division, and Vice President and General Manager of the Scholastic Division.  Civic activities have included the East Cobb Rotary Club of which he is past president, the National Chairman of the Council of Growing Companies, a national nonprofit business organization for CEOs and growing companies.

Dennis Hooper

Your Executive Coach

Dennis Hooper spent his first career helping hundreds of managers and technicians within the Procter & Gamble Company (23 years) and the Weyerhaeuser Company (7 years) build their leadership skills.  He held line and Human Resource staff assignments at five different manufacturing locations, often serving other facilities based on his growing reputation.

Now, as a Certified FranklinCovey Coach focused on leadership development, Dennis is helping leaders of organizations enhance the skills of their direct reports.  He shows leaders how to leverage their experience and influence to build future organizational leaders.  The executive achieves greater freedom while building assurance that the organization will continue to serve its customers well, continually improving toward excellence.  Dennis installs a leadership development system in those organizations that do not yet have one, and improves systems that currently exist.  After identifying each leader’s current strengths and limitations, he guides the individual in generating a plan to enhance skills and increase service to direct reports.

Thousands witness Dennis’ teaching and writing skills through his biweekly newspaper columns focused on building leaders and organizations of excellence—he’s been writing articles for ten years!  Skilled in applying academic theories and empirical models to the practical needs of organizations, his penetrating questions cause leaders to think deeply, often making new meaning of familiar situations.

Dennis has a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech and a master’s degree in Business Administration from East Carolina University.  He is a member of the International Coach Federation, the Georgia Coach Association, and the Christian Coaches Network.  With clients from Florida to New York and west to Washington state demanding his attention, Dennis misses every night he’s away from Atlanta and Donna, his loving wife.  They enjoy investing time with their daughter Alison, her husband Daniel, and their toddler son, Riley.

Company, Cocktails, & Culture – View “Oval with Points” (a.k.a. Nixon’s Profile)

This is our first annual "Dues and a Dollar" Kickoff Event! That’s it – just pay your 2009-10 Membership Dues, and you’ll enjoy an evening among fellow Princeton Alumni at the Atlanta Botanical Garden for just $1. This includes free admission (a $15 value) and one free drink ticket (priceless).

Come join your fellow Princeton Alumni for what promises to be a hilarious performance by the legendary Chicago Second City comedy group.

“Peach Drop, Stop and Roll” is written especially for Atlanta, so bring your thick skin, as this show claims to “skewer Atlanta’s favorite sacred cows and pink pigs.”

This performance is in the Alliance Theater on the very intimate Hertz Stage, the underground 200-seat theater at the Woodruff Arts Center.

Buy your tickets directly through the Alliance Theater box office at
www.alliancetheatre.org or at 404-733-5000.

Be sure to RSVP to Rich Holland '96 at
rholland@alumni.princeton.edu once you buy your tickets. This showing is General Admission, so we can coordinate a Princeton seating block for interested folks. Debbie Williams '84 and her husband, Jerry, will be in the theater lobby a bit early, so keep an eye out for any orange and black!
