Committee Reports

Schools Committee Report

Jay Czarnecki, co-chair of the Schools Committee, reported on a mass e-mail sent this summer soliciting new volunteers for the committee. Jay reported that 35 new volunteers inquired about opportunities to volunteer for the committee. This brings the total volunteers available to interview students to 130. Jay will be attending a local college fair and attended a general information session recently hosted by the University.

Treasurer’s Report

Woody Smith, Treasurer of the Association, reported that the balance in the Association’s account was $5,515 on September 30, 2004. There were approximately 50 members who paid dues last year and he noted concern that the treasury was in poor condition. He began discussion about abolishing the current dues structure and charging for events in lieu of charging dues.

Woody continues conversations with the University regarding an investment fund started by the Association and held at the University. There are significant funds in this account that could be used to provide scholarships to local students, fund the summer internship program, or cover expenses for other worthwhile causes of the Organization.

Annual Dinner Report

Woody Smith has arranged for Governor Robert Ehrlich ’79 to speak at the annual dinner on Tuesday, April 26, 2005. Scott Klarner and Chris Espenshade will work to coordinate the dinner. The preferred venue is the Engineer’s Club in Baltimore. At least three communication pieces will be distributed regarding the event with the first piece sent on or about January 15, 2005.

Secretary’s Report

The secretary proposed the idea of sending the newsletter via e-mail rather than U.S. mail in order to reduce expenditures. Currently, 1154 local alumni receive the newsletter, but 691 have e-mail addresses listed in Tigernet. This idea will be tried for the spring edition.

Anna Minkowski ’02 spoke about a Princeton giving circle as part of the B’MORE fund. The B’MORE fund is a giving circle in Baltimore, Maryland created by community leaders who are celebrating the work of social entrepreneurs in the region while at the same time becoming more informed about grant making, philanthropy, and the many issues affecting our community.

The Association is not in a position to fund the circle, but the next newsletter will mention the program and encourage members to contact Anna for additional information.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:45 P.M.
