Minutes from the Meeting
September 15, 1998

Attendees:
Macie Hall, Mary Anne Brush, Virginia Corson, Sarah Evans, David Heubeck, Drew Jiranek, Doug Ober, Francis Smyth, Scott Conover, Ed Combs, Warren Hamel, Carl Eastwick. Guest, Hope Bodie.

The meeting was called to order by President Macie Hall at 7:00 PM. Macie began by introducing and welcoming guest Hope Bodie'94 and new Board member Ed Combs'75. Hope responded to an open invitation to all alumni, printed in the last newsletter, to attend a Board meeting. Hope made the mistake of coming to the meeting where committee assignments were made ... and so she was given an assignment! More on that later.

Committee Reports:
Bruce Fleming could not attend the meeting and thus there was no treasurer's report. There were no other committee reports. Warren Hamel has not hear from this year's summer intern, Maria Conley, about her tenure at House of Ruth, but will contact her to find out, and did receive a note from the Student Volunteers Committee thanking PAAM for supporting the internship.

Committee Assignments:
The President presented the Board with a list of committee assignments and asked if anyone wanted to resign from their current committees and/or take on new assignments. Everyone agreed to continue in their assigned positions, except f rom now on Sarah Evans will act as Secretary, take on newsletter duties from Macie, and turn over her assistance on the Schools Committee to Hope Bodie. Thus this year Hope will help Schools Committee Chairman Scott Klarner organize applicant interviews.

PAAM is still in need of an Annual Giving chairperson. An alum in Annapolis may take over the position, as may Ed Combs, but if no volunteer is forthcoming then we will do what we did last year, which was to organize a spring fund raising telethon by committee.

P.A.A.M. Web Page:
With urging from the Princeton Alumni office, Macie Hall has volunteered to design a web page for PAAM. Scott Conover mentioned that he had reviewed several other ivy and PAA web sites and would refer Macie to several that might be used as models. Macie suggested that we start by putting the newsletter online and build from there.

Minutes from Last Meeting:
The minutes of the last meeting were reviewed and adopted by voice vote.

Fall Newsletter and Dues Notice:
Sarah Evans and Macie Hall will collaborate to produce the fall newsletter, which should be mailed by November 1. Macie asked for article submissions re: Book Awards and summer internship. An announcement about a fall event will also be published. More on that later.

February 2,1999 Meeting with Alumni Council:
The new president of the Princeton Alumni Council, Brent Henry, is planning to visit Baltimore on Tuesday, February 2, 1999. Macie asked Doug Ober to organize a dinner for Mr. Henry and the Board. Doug will touch base with Macie as to whether he is able to accept this assignment.

Sports League Inc.:
Next, the President reported that she had been contacted by a Rutgers alum who works for an organization called Sports League Inc. Sports League Inc. is now organizing various leagues in Baltimore, and was inquiring about PAAM's interest in sponsoring one or more teams. (it was unclear as to whether PAAM was being asked to financially support a team, or simply field athletes. Sports League Inc. currently runs several leagues in the D.C. area, andmostteamshavecorporateorinstitutionalsponsors.) Flagfootballandsoccer leagues will begin games on September 19, and volleyball and basketball leagues will begin games on January 11. Anyone interested in participating - either individually or as a member of a group - is invited to do So. The Board decided to run an announcement about Sports League Inc. in the next newsletter and provide a phone number so that interested alums can follow up directly.

Next Meeting:
The next Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 12,1999.

New Business:
The President opened the floor to new business. Carl Eastwick announced that the Princeton basketball team will be playing the University of Maryland in the Baltimore Arena on December 19th. Everyone agreed that this could serve as a great fall event. Special Events co-chairman Scott Conover will find out more about purchasing tickets and plans to organize a cocktail/beer reception prior to the game, possibly in collaboration with the D.C. alumni club. macie and Sarah will check with Scott about the status of this event prior to publishing the fall newsletter.

With no further business to conduct, the meeting was adjourned at 8:02 PM - an all-time record!!!

Respectfully submitted,
Sarah Evans, Secretary
