Philly NetNights brings together three special guests - Ellen Yin,
owner of Fork restaurant; Stan Richelson, a financial advisor and author of
The Money-Making Guide to Bonds, Straightforward Strategies for Picking the
Right Bonds and Bond Funds; and James Chan, a business consultant and author
of The Spare Room Tycoon - for our January gathering to discuss what drove
them to take on the risk that they did in order to pursue their dream career.
Our evening will include a panel of prominent Philadelphians to answer your
questions on making risky career decisions work.
Below is a brief biography of the panelists:
Ellen Yin, M.B.A.
Ellen Yin is Co-Owner of two of Philadelphia’s most recognized eating
establishments: Fork Restaurant and Fork:etc. After she earned her MBA from
the Wharton School, Yin worked as a management consultant to the health care
industry. Her career also includes stints in advertising, marketing and
special events management. Knowing all along that her real passion was to
create her own restaurant, Yin left her career to start Fork in October 1996
and will discuss how she got there and the thinking behind her decisions!
Stan Richelson, J.D., LL.M.
Stan Richelson is a financial advisor and career coach to individuals and
families, business owners, executives and professionals. He integrates the
fields of investments, law, tax and accounting to provide solutions to complex
problems and to enable clients to reach their full potential. Prior to making
the leap from corporate America to private practice, Stan worked as an
accountant at Arthur Andersen, as an attorney at a major Wall Street firm, and
as Tax Counsel and Staff Vice-President at Unisys. Stan will present ideas on
how to plan and manage personal finances in anticipation of a major career
change.
James Chan, Ph.D.
James Chan is founder and principal of Asia Marketing and Management (AMM), a
Philadelphia-based consultancy specialized in advising U.S. companies on doing
business in China and on entrepreneurship. Since he founded his practice in
1983, Chan has helped more than 100 U.S. companies expand their businesses in
China and other Asian countries. James, a naturalized U.S. citizen, was born
in Guangzhou, China, attended the University of Hong Kong, and received his
Ph.D. from the University of Michigan. He will speak and answer questions on
the topic of succeeding as an independent consultant.
