Annual Reception for Admitted Students--All alumni are welcome to attend, you do not have to be a member of the ASC to attend. Join us as we meet the local high school seniors who were admitted to the Class of 2014! Thanks go to Greg Gerlach '84 and Mary Lamb '90 for arranging to interview 204 students over the snowy fall and winter, and to their 60+ volunteers who conducted the interviews. Applicants will be advised of the admission decisions later on this week. We won't know who was admitted until the Admission Office tells us, probably not until this time next week. Greg will send out a list after he finds out.

Dinner and Talk by Julia Greer '92 MD MPH--Join us for an entertaining talk by Julia Greer '92 titled "Dietary Strategies for Reducing Cancer Risk." Julia, an English Lit major at Princeton, is the author of the Anti-Cancer Cookbook. We will be treated to dinner of one of her recipes, prepared by volunteers of Gilda's Club, a cancer support organization. Julia is a graduate of both Mt. Sinai medical school in New York City and the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health. She is a professor at Pitt's medical school. Come prepared to learn how research is conducted on cancer and nutrition and how to incorporate healthy eating habits into your daily life.

Time: 6-8 p.m.
Location: Gilda's Club, Smallman Street @ 28th Street. There is a parking lot directly across the street from the Club.
Cost: There is no cost for the talk, however a donation to Gilda' Club for the use of the facility and the dinner would be appreciated!

Young Alumni Happy Hour, October 30, 2008

 

 

The Young Alumni Happy Hour on Oct 30, 2008 at Bar Louie in Station Square was well attended (this is a small representation of the group). Pictured are L-R Brian Davies '00, Mary Pagnotto '00, S'00, Liz Pohl '01, Cat Sheane '99 and Mike Dinitz '05. The next happy hour is being planned for Feb -- likely to involve a Princeton Basketball game.

 

 

 

 

Wild Things Baseball Game Night - Saturday, June 21, 2008  -

 

 

Attending the PAAWP night at the Wild Things games were Gerlachs ('84), Lambs ('90), Paris ('05),

 

Hollihan ('05) and a whole bunch of Dyes ('75. '76, '05, '05 and '10). 

 

The game went into a rain delay during the sixth, but the Wild Things emerged victorious.

You and a guest are cordially invited to attend the PAA of Western Pennsylvania's Annual Dinner. Our guest for the evening will be Princeton Professor of English and the Center for African American Studies, Anne Cheng '85, who will discuss "The Marx Brothers and the Antics of Immigration."

MEAL CHOICE: Grilled chicken breast with artichokes and roasted red peppers; grilled salmon with maple-mustard glaze; or wild mushroom ravioli with sun-dried tomatoes and gorgonzola.

 

Over a dozen alums met prospective members of Princeton's Class of 2012 on Monday, April 14 at the Allegheny-HYP Club.  We had 20 local students admitted to Princeton this year.  Congratulating Derek Grego '12 on his matriculation is Jim Braham '54.  Look for these Pittsburgh students to enroll at Princeton this fall. 

December 27, 2007 - Holiday Luncheon for all Undergraduates and Alumni

 

The PAAWP held its annual Holiday Luncheon on December 27, 2007, at the Allegheny-HYP Club.  Undergraduates attending the lunch included Randall Dye '10, Emma Giunipero '09, Jeremiah Miller '08, Christopher Stem '10 and Jonathan Stem '08.   Our seniors discussed their thesis topics and their plans for next year.  Grads attending the lunch included Chuck Broadbeck '71, Mary Ellen Martin Dye '76, Ben Klaber '05, Mary Lamb '90 and Liz Pohl '01.   The alums entertained the undergraduates by briefly describing their thesis topics and whether or not their conclusions were still valid.  The group also gave a locomotive cheer for the Class of 2008 and everyone sang Old Nassau.

 

 

Young Alumni Happy Hour - Tuesday, June 19th, 2007 - 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. - Silky's Pub (5135 Liberty Ave., Bloomfield) - [map] - Young and "young at heart" alumni were invited to attend an informal happy hour to celebrate the start of summer! Whether you're a native Pittsburgher or you're new to the area, this was the perfect opportunity to come out and catch up with some fellow Tigers.

Recent PAAWP Events Details

12/22/06 - Princeton Women's Basketball Team at Duquesne University

Local Princeton fans were treated to an exciting game on Friday, December 22 when the Princeton Women’s Basketball team defeated Duquesne’s Lady Dukes 62-59.  After trailing by as many as twelve points for most of the game, the Tigers slowly chipped away at Duquesne’s lead in the final minutes.  Pittsburgh’s Meagan Cowher ’08 scored the go ahead two points in the final minutes of play.

 

The game was well attended by alumni, current students, and parents.  The crowd enjoyed a great game.

 

 

12/29/06 - Annual Holiday Lunch for current undergraduates and Early Decision Students

The PAAWP hosted its annual lunch for local undergraduates, Early Decision admits, parents and alumni on Friday, December 29, at the Allegheny-HYP Club.  Eight students attended, including Ronee Penoi ’07, John Edwards ’08, Alexander Kandabrow ’08, Evan Ayasso ’09, Caitlin Manzo ’09, Randall Dye ’10, and newly admitted James Connolly ’11 and Kyle O’ Donovan ’11.

 

Ronee Penoi ’07 talked about her senior thesis topic, and the current undergraduates offered advice to the new kids.  Mike Manzo ’70 gave the new Princetonians Beat Yale buttons, subscribing to the theory that you can’t indoctrinate them soon enough!

 

Other Princetonians at the lunch included new-to-the-Pittsburgh area Robert Auray ’73, Tony Cerminaro ’76, Mary Ellen Martin Dye ’76,  Greg Gerlach ’84, Mary Pagnotto ’00 and Michael Pagnotto ’00.

 

2006 Annual Dinner, Guest Speaker: Professor Winston Soboyejo on Nanotechnology

You and a guest are cordially invited to attend the Princeton Alumni Association of Western Pennsylvania's Annual Dinner. Our guest for the evening will be Princeton Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Professor, Winston Soboyejo, who will discuss "Nanotechnology for Cancer Detection and Treatment."
