  • Feb 26, 2011: Team ASC India wins the Penick Award!

The Princeton Club of India is very proud to announce that our young ASC Co-Chairs Alice Easton ’09 and Rahul Mehra ’07 were the joint recipients of the 2011 S. Barksdale Penick, Jr. ’25 Award at the annual Alumni Day luncheon ceremony held on campus on February 26. Quoting directly from the award letter “This award recognizes the ASCs whose activities, enthusiasm and imagination have most effectively realized the primary goals of schools committee work: to recruit outstanding candidates for Princeton, report skillfully on these candidates to the Admission Office, and to represent Princeton to its local community.” In addition we are the ONLY international ASC group to win it this year from a total of 93 countries and they are the YOUNGEST ever recipients of the award.

The award was accepted on behalf of Alice and Rahul by Prof. Gyan Prakash, Dayton-Stockton Professor of History at Princeton and a long-time supporter of the PCI. Quoting from Anne Sherrerd, chair of the Alumni Council when she presented the award, "The young chairs of ASC India took responsibility for that vast and important region, after our interviewing cycle had already begun. They were thrown into a difficult situation, under great time pressure. They got some coaching from the Princeton Club of India, from their PSC mentor and from the PSC leadership as a whole, but two young alumni Rahul Mehra and Alice Easton, members of the classes of '07 and '09, were the keys to turning around a potentially dire situation through their persistence, enthusiasm and energy. ASC India succeeded in reaching out to every one of its many hundreds of applicants, in giant cities and in small villages and set a real example for the future leadership of emerging areas. By its strong performance this ASC has convincingly demonstrated that India will be one of the most successful and significant ASC regions for Princeton in the years to come."

  • Princeton Club of India wins the APGA Award at Reunions 2010!

The Princeton Club of India was awarded the "APGA (Association of Princeton Graduate Alumni) Regional Association Award" by Princeton University.  The award is awarded annually to a Princeton regional alumni association for more fully engaging graduate alumni.

The award was presented at the festive annual reunions luncheon convened by the Alumni Council of Princeton.  The award was presented to Rishi Jaitly '04, Past Treasurer of the Princeton Club of India, by Richard Cox *74, President of the Association of Princeton Graduate Alumni.  Rishi was accepting on behalf of PCI President Ranjan Pal. Also in attendance was Siddharth Dasgupta, who played an instrumental role in a pivotal interclub event PCI organized last year.

The event, which was attended by Princeton President Shirley Tilghman and other Princeton leaders, had a decidedly orange-and-black atmosphere to which the PCI brought its own orange-white-and-green energy!

This is the second time that the Club has been honoured in the five years since it was resurrected and reinvigorated in 2006, the first time being when we won the John Maclean Award for the most improved regional association in 2007. We thank the Princeton Community for all its support and encouragement.

This is awarded each year by the Alumni Council to the most improved regional association, and was presented to PCI at this year's Reunions. Since being resurrected in 2006, PCI has done much to build the Princeton-India network: establishing a website, hosting several events/talks, and working to increase visits by faculty and admissions office representatives to India.
